Comparison Tracker · Free · No account

A product comparison spreadsheet for Excel, for something to buy.

The buy setup names each row an Option and has three must-haves: In budget, In stock and At least two years’ warranty. There is no quote date or contact column. Good points and Doubts give each option two short notes, and a Link column stores the listing.

  • Excel 2016 and later
  • Calculations checked in LibreOffice and Google Sheets
  1. Name each rowType what each row is called, such as Quote, Provider or Place. It becomes the first column heading and the sheet name.
  2. Write your must-havesList up to six, one per line. Each becomes a column answered Yes, Partly or No. Choose the currency and how many months to compare costs over.
  3. Download and add optionsDownload the workbook, open the sheet and add each quote as it arrives. The total, the gap from the cheapest and the Summary update automatically.

What you get

What is different in this setup

Shoppers comparing a washing machine, a laptop or a sofa across several shops, who want the price with delivery added on.

  • Rows are called Options, with a Link column for the product page.
  • Must-haves suited to a purchase: budget, stock and warranty.
  • No quote dates or contact columns, so the sheet is narrower.

Sheets included (4)

  1. Start HereHow the workbook works, what each sheet is for and the settings used.
  2. OptionsEach option once, with its costs and must-haves.
  3. SummaryWhat is still in the running, by total cost, and what is still to find out.
  4. ListsEdit the white lists to change dropdown choices. Shaded lists are fixed because formulas use those names.

Apple Numbers
Some calculations do not workMany calculations on the Quotes sheet and the Summary sheet do not work in Apple Numbers. Numbers converts list-based dropdowns to plain cells and removes colour markers, sheet protection, frozen headings and number and date validation. Use Excel for these calculations and features.

Questions

Are my builder entries sent to Due Form?

No. The builder uses them in your browser to make the workbook on your device.

Information is sent to Due Form when you submit a form or use another service described on the How it works page.

How the utilities work

Where do I put delivery or installation?

Use One-off extras. The Total cost adds it to the price, so a cheaper item with expensive delivery no longer looks like the lowest total.

Can I add my own must-have, such as a colour?

Yes. Replace or add must-haves before you download, up to six. Each becomes a Yes, Partly or No column, so Colour available works as well as In stock.
